A POST WORTH READING...

My wife called, 'How long will you be with that newspaper?

Will you come here and make your darling daughter eat her food?

I tossed the paper away and rushed to the scene.

My only daughter, Sindu, looked frightened; tears were welling up in her eyes.

In front of her was a bowl filled to its brim with curd rice.

Sindu is a nice child, quite intelligent for her age.

I cleared my throat and picked up the bowl. 'Sindu, darling, why don't you take a few mouthful

of this curd rice?

Just for Dad's sake, dear'.

Sindu softened a bit and wiped her tears with the back of her hands.

'Ok, Dad. I will eat - not just a few mouthfuls, but the whole lot of this.

But, you should...' Sindu hesitated.
'Dad, if I eat this entire curd Rice, will you give me whatever I ask for?'

'Promise'. I covered the pink soft hand extended by my daughter with mine, and clinched the deal.

Now I became a bit anxious.

'Sindu, dear, you shouldn't insist on getting a computer or any such expensive items.

Dad does not have that kind of money right now. Ok?'

'No, Dad.

I do not want anything expensive'.

Slowly and painfully, she finished eating the whole quantity..

I was silently angry with my wife and my mother for forcing my child to eat something that she detested.

After the ordeal was through, Sindu came to me with her eyes wide with expectation.
All our attention was on her.

'Dad, I want to have my head shaved off, this Sunday!'
was her demand..

'Atrocious!' shouted my wife, 'A girl child having her head shaved off? Impossible!'

'Never in our family!'

My mother rasped.
'She has been watching too much of television.

Our culture is getting totally spoiled with these TV programs!'

'Sindu, darling, why don't you ask for something else? We will be sad seeing you with a clean-shaven head.'

'Please, Sindu, why don't you try to understand our feelings?'

I tried to plead with her.

'Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that Curd Rice'.

Sindu was in tears.

'And you promised to grant me whatever I ask for. Now, you are going back on your words.

Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra, and its moral that we should honor our promises no matter what?'

It was time for me to call the shots.

 'Our promise must be kept.'

'Are you out of your mind?'  chorused my mother and wife.

'No. If we go back on our promises she will never learn to honour her own. Sindu, your wish will be fulfilled.'

With her head clean-shaven, Sindu had a round-face, and her eyes looked big and beautiful.

On Monday morning, I dropped her at her school.

It was a sight to watch my hairless Sindu walking towards her classroom..

She turned around and waved. I waved back with a smile.

Just then, a boy alighted from a car, and shouted,
 'Sinduja, please wait for me!'

What struck me was the hairless head of that boy.

'May be, that is the in-stuff', I thought.

'Sir, your daughter Sinduja is great indeed!'

Without introducing herself, a lady got out of the car,
and continued, 'that boy who is walking along with your daughter is my son Harish.

 He is suffering from... leukemia'.

She paused to muffle her sobs.

'Harish could not attend the school for the whole of the last month.

He lost all his hair due to the side effects of the chemotherapy.

He refused to come back to school fearing the unintentional but cruel teasing of the schoolmates.

Sinduja visited him last week, and promised him that she will take care of the teasing issue.

But, I never imagined she would sacrifice her lovely hair for the sake of my son!

Sir, you and your wife are blessed to have such a noble soul as your daughter.'

I stood transfixed and then, I wept.

'My little Angel, you are teaching me how selfless real love is!'

"The happiest people on this planet are not those who live on their own terms

but are those who change their terms for the ones whom they love !!"

FRIENDSHIP WEEK :)

Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence. (Most
importantly the last sentence)

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.  He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the ! day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.  You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say "I'm sorry", the wound is still there.  A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us."

It's National Friendship Week. Show your friends how much you care. HAPPIE FRIENDSHIP WEEK :)

ONE PARAGRAPH THAT EXPLAINS LIFE !!!

Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983.
From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?
To this Arthur Ashe replied:

"The world over -- 50 million children start playing tennis, 5 million learn to play tennis, 500,000 learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals, when I was holding a cup I never asked GOD 'Why me?'.
And today in pain I should not be asking GOD 'Why me?' "
"Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrow keeps you Human,
Failure keeps you humble and Success keeps you glowing, but only Faith & Attitude Keeps you going..."

LOVE IS IN THE AIR.....!

Did you know that, according to legend, Valentine's Day was started to Saint Valentine, a Roman saint who was executed on February 14th, 270 A.D.? St. Valentine was killed for secretly marrying couples in defiance of an order of the Roman emperor. The emperor had forbidden marriage after Roman men began refusing conscription in order to stay home with their wives.

Did you know that Cupid was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love? Cupid is a mainstay of Valentine's Day marketing campaigns, featured prominently on greeting cards and boxes of chocolates.

Did you know that 65 percent of American households send or exchange greeting cards? More than 180 million Valentine's cards are sent by mail, with another 700 million homemade and store-bought Valentine's exchanged at school and work.

Did you know that Hallmark sells over 1,300 different styles of Valentine's Day cards? February 14th is the second most popular card-giving holiday. Christmas is the first most popular.

Did you know that exchanging Valentine's cards likely began in America as early as the 1700s?

The first mass-produced Valentine's Day card was sold in the 1840s by Esther Howland, a Massachusetts native. She originally sold hand-made, lace cards for as much as $35 per card.

Did you know that the oldest known Valentine's Day card is on display at a London museum? The card was sent in 1415 by the Duke of Orleans to his wife in France. The Duke was imprisoned at the time in the Tower of London.

Did you know that 38 percent of Americans buy candy for their loved ones on Valentines Day? The first heart-shaped box of candy was sold in 1868 by Richard Cadbury.

Did you know that chocolate has long been considered an aphrodisiac? The Aztec emperor Montezuma drank ground cocoa beans to increase his sexual prowess. In Mesoamerican marriage ceremonies, the couple shared a ritual cup of cocoa, which was believed to increase their luck in love.

Did you know that 32 percent of Americans purchase flowers on Valentine's Day? Three-quarters of those who buy the flowers are men.

Did you know that the red rose was believed to be the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman god of love and the father of Cupid?

Did you know that Americans buy and send more than 110 million roses for Valentine's Day? California is the leading domestic producer of roses, although the majority of the ones sold on Valentine's Day are imported from South America.

Did you know that one in 10 Americans buy jewelry as a Valentine's Day gift? In 2005, February jewelry sales topped $2.4 billion.

Did you know that on Valentine's Day, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell applied for a patent on his invention, the telephone, which he called "an improvement in telegraphy"? If you can't be with your loved one on Valentine's Day, you can "reach out and touch someone" -- thanks to Mr. Bell.

Did you know that the expression "wear your heart on your sleeve" comes from a Middle Ages Valentine's Day tradition? Young men and women would draw the name of their Valentine from a bowl. They would wear their selected name on their sleeves for one week.

Did you know that Valentine's Day was first declared an official holiday by King Henry VIII of England in 1537? Today Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Mexico, France and Australia.

Did you know that in Colombia, Valentines Day is celebrated in September? And Brazil, Valentine's Day, otherwise known as the Day of the Enamored, is on June 12. In Israel, Tu B'Av is the holiday of love, celebrated in late summer.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS........

Here is an ecxellent piece of stupid joke ( i dont dare call it a joke but then i'm sure you wil certainly laugh at it). This i actually recieved as an sms from one of my pals who is usually good at these stuffs-the witty or rather insane smsing..

The sms short story goes like this (story writer:sudarshan) :
Story line: How a crow can damage your life

There is a power-cut all of a sudden, and having nothing else to do, suda alias sudarshan falls asleep. There are too many disturbances around-noises-phone bell rings- mom gossips- and gossips- and gossips- grandmom making noises - birds chirping- kids playing - suda(the hero of this story) lost his cool and kicked the bero in rage. leg damage...TENSION all over!

Now where does the crow come into picture...? here's where : the crow bit some wire in transformer, the transformer burst..leading to this power-cut...crow died...suda cried...!!

MORAL OF THE STORY IS : Don't sleep on afternoons, especially during power cuts!!

well, now, i can see that you are wondering if suda is insane or it is me who really is...to post this stupid sms here and call it a joke. But you know, at times such small msgs can make you laugh when you are stressed or depressed. I was just not having a good time this afternoon wen this msg just made me laugh and i decided to share this moment with my blog buddies. And as this story teller usually quotes...
"TAKE IT LITE" !!!

STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress - This is the word that spoils everything - career, relationship, friendship etc. I had shared my views with regard to stress management, hope you'll find this useful.Stress is a psychological state that affects the immune system.

In this fast moving world, there is connection between stress and vulnerability to viral infections such as colds is widely recognized. For example, cold, fever & flu rates increase among students during exam periods. Can you find why? The reason is due to stress which keeps down the immune system.Keeping a positive outlook on life can help to overcome the weakening of the immune system. Stress develops depression. Depression affects learning and memory.

So it is essential to manage the stress. Stress can be managed through a healthy lifestyle, including physical exercise, humour which keeps in control the blood level flow which gets increased to brain, muscles and heart due to stress. Men and women handle stress in different dimensions. While men tend to isolate themselves from others, women will turn to relatives/friends for help to get rid of the stress.

Some quick tips & tricks to overcome this stress:
1. Humor therapy - Keep yourself a sense of humour.
2. Listening to your favourite music which can calm your mind.
3. Exercising daily - in the early morning(Physical exercise helps to strengthen brain cells).
4. Cultivate the habit of learning new skills daily.
5. Commitment to listening plus to teach something you know.
6. You shouldn't make/feel yourself depressed as depressing harms brain function.
7. Also you need to be in your weight -not under/over weight which helps you to think faster (See the people in japan/china who are neither under nor over weight and just see their working potential - japan -2nd in economy, china =hardware)..Slim a bit to think faster.
8. Just try to greet back the people whoever greet you, don't always expect someone to greet you, that shows you are not easy moving. Include some good soft skills within you to improve your career skills.
9. Think before you start anything so that you needn't stress yourself later. Strategically thinking & Visualizing - very important ingredients of life.
10. Proper sleep is essential for acquiring new knowledge and learning new skills. So sleep proper to reach top levels.Overall if you try to implement full-brain engagement then there is no room for stress.
11.yoga,prayers & aerobics are some of the best stress management therapies.

I welcome your points/views/feedback on the same.
thank you!

Know about the INDIAN REPUBLIC DAY !

Even before the Independence of India from the British rule on August 15, 1947, january 26th was celebrating in a different context. "It was the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress at midnight of December 31, 1929-January 1, 1930 that the tri-color flag was unfurled by the nationalists and a pledge taken that every year on january 26, the Independence day would be celebrated and that the people would unceasingly strive for the establishment of a sovereign Democratic REPUBLIC OF INDIA.

India became a republic and the constitution came into force on January 26, 1950. The Constituent Assembly was convened and appointed a committee with Dr.B.R.Ambedkar as chairman to draft the constitution. India declared herself to be a sovereign Democratic republic. The Indian Constitution, the longest in the world, consist 397 articles and 12 schedules, which provides for a single citizenship for the whole of INDIA.

HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY...JAI HIND!!!

Should i call it a JOKE or a REALITY ??

HR Heaven and Hell :

One day while walking down the street a highly successful HR Directorwas tragically hit by a bus and she died. Her soul arrived up in heavenwhere she was met at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter himself."Welcome to Heaven," said St. Peter. "Before you get settled in though,it seems we have a problem. You see, strangely enough, we've never oncehad a Human Resources Director make it this far and we're not reallysure what to do with you.""No problem, just let me in," said the woman. "Well, I'd like to,"replied St. Peter, "but I have higher orders. What we're going to do islet you have a day in Hell and a day in Heaven and then you can choosewhichever one you want to spend an eternity in.""Actually, I think I've made up my mind, I prefer to stay in Heaven,"said the woman."Sorry, we have rules..." And with that St. Peter put the executive inan elevator and it went down-down-down to hell. The doors opened and shefound herself stepping out onto the putting green of a beautiful golfcourse. In the distance was a country club and standing in front of herwere all her friends - fellow executives that she had worked with andthey were all dressed in evening gowns and cheering for her. They ran upand kissed her on both cheeks and they talked about old times. Theyplayed an excellent round of golf and at night went to the country clubwhere she enjoyed an excellent steak and lobster dinner. She met theDevil who was actually a really nice guy (kinda cute) and she had agreat time telling jokes and dancing. She was having such a good timethat before she knew it, it was time to leave. Everybody shook her handand waved good-bye as she got on the elevator. The elevator wentup-up-up and opened back up at the Pearly Gates and she found St. Peterwaiting for her."Now it's time to spend a day in heaven," he said. So she spent the next24 hours lounging around on clouds and playing the harp and singing. Shehad a great time and before she knew it her 24 hours were up and St.Peter came and got her. "So, you've spent a day in hell and you've spenta day in heaven. Now you must choose your eternity," he said. The womanpaused for a second and then replied, "Well, I never thought I'd saythis, I mean, Heaven has been really great and all, but I think I had abetter time in Hell." So St. Peter escorted her to the elevator andagain she went down-down-down back to Hell. When the doors of the elevator opened she found herself standing in adesolate wasteland covered in garbage and filth. She saw her friendswere dressed in rags and were picking up the garbage and putting it insacks. The Devil came up to her and put his arm around her."I don't understand," stammered the woman, "yesterday I was here andthere was a golf course and a country club and we ate lobster and wedanced and had a great time. Now all there is, is a wasteland of garbageand all my friends look miserable."The Devil looked at her and smiled. "Yesterday we were recruiting you, today you're staff..."

The Boring Days Once Again :(

If you had been a regular visitor of my blog, you would surely know by now, what the heading of this post could possibly mean. If you have guessed it right...yes, it is about my EXAMS. Remember reading something about my exams being postponed due to the heavy rains in chennai couple of weeks ago? That was one of those happiest days on which i posted about enjoying the postponement of exams...and now the time has come to mourn about it.
Having exams right at the beginning of a new semester is THE MOST TORTURING thing that a student can face. And i'm one of those unluckiest students struggling to get back from the holiday mood and start preparing for the exam. But i must say, this has'nt stopped me from enjoying all the Pongal special programs on TV [:P] . Anyways, just thought i'd share my sad days with my pals to get geared up! :P
Pray for my doing well in the exams and wish me gud luck to get an easy paper! :P:P
adioz!
